My love for art was seeded in my early childhood. I was fascinated by the lovely and imaginative fairytale illustrations in my children’s books and cartoons. Later, I sold my first artwork in first grade, which was Disney and Sailor Moon inspired coloring templates for my classmates.

I always start with a pencil drawing and then I sometimes add accents in watercolor and acrylic. My art is often black and white and all shades of grey in order to create a certain timelessness, as colors are already biased with a certain feeling, emotion, time and location.

The inspiration behind this illustration is Lola Tong herself, representing an independent and strong woman who could be a business lady from Hong Kong, a social worker from Germany or a beautiful dancer from Mexico. Lola Tong is us! Lola Tong is you! I used graphite pencil, ink and watercolour to create a constellation between the contrast of hard and soft as well as order and chaos to symbolise the eclectic personality of Lola Tong.
